The Mining Truck That Looked Like the Future

We’re used to heavy trucks being well engineered, powerful, and increasingly sophisticated. But sometimes they also look really good.

Komatsu’s Innovative Autonomous Haulage Vehicle (IAHV) is one of those machines.

Unveiled at MINExpo 2016, the IAHV was designed from the start as an unmanned mining truck. No cab. Four-wheel drive, four-wheel steering, and the ability to travel efficiently in either direction. Its cabless design also gave Komatsu the freedom to create that unusually sleek, almost futuristic shape.

Nearly ten years later, however, the IAHV remains a concept/R&D platform and is not in commercial production as of September 2026.

Still, it may be one of the best-looking mining trucks ever designed.
