Carrier puts chiller capacity on a 2027 clock.

Carrier plans a more-than-one-million-square-foot Fort Worth manufacturing and engineering center to expand U.S. production of air- and water-cooled commercial chillers.

AI: Carrier puts chiller capacity on a 2027 clock.
A new factory is intended to turn data-center cooling demand into qualified U.S. chiller capacity.

Carrier will invest more than $600 million over three years in the Texas site, which is expected to begin operations in 2027 and create about 1,500 manufacturing, engineering and support jobs. The company says the plant will strengthen its domestic supply chain and expand advanced thermal-management capacity.

Commercial chillers from the facility will serve data centers as well as healthcare, education and industrial buildings. Carrier has not disclosed annual unit output, megawatts of cooling capacity, individual customer allocations or a detailed production-ramp schedule, so the commitment should not yet be counted as delivered infrastructure.

01

What changed

Carrier had already signaled that it was evaluating another U.S. commercial-HVAC factory. The October 22 announcement fixes the location, investment, operating year, facility scale, workforce plan and product class, converting a capacity intention into a dated manufacturing project.

02

Why it matters

Compute cannot operate without removing its heat, and long equipment lead times can delay a data-center opening even when servers, land and power are secured. Carrier's investment ties the AI buildout to another physical production system: factories, test equipment, suppliers and skilled technicians capable of delivering reliable chillers at scale. Locating the plant in Texas also puts new cooling capacity near one of the country's largest data-center markets, though that market is simultaneously confronting grid and permitting constraints. The project will matter operationally when qualified equipment reaches customer sites on schedule and performs at its stated efficiency and reliability.

03

What to watch

Watch construction and hiring milestones, manufacturing-line qualification, first production in 2027, disclosed annual capacity, lead-time changes, domestic supplier content, customer commitments and measured energy and water performance at operating data centers.

Why it was a runner-up

The manufacturing commitment is large and tied to a physical AI-infrastructure bottleneck, but the plant will not begin operating until 2027 and its added unit capacity is undisclosed.

Impact: 89/100 · Confidence: 91/100

Carrier's release provides the investment, location, facility scale, product scope and 2027 operating target. Hillwood corroborates the site and market purpose, while the Wall Street Journal reports the investment in the context of record data-center chiller orders. Output volume remains undisclosed.
