The Mixed Fleet Problem: When Physical Machines Unite but Digital Systems Stay Separate

Ever wondered what a mixed fleet of industrial machines looks like in the real world?

I took this picture in Tokyo in 2025: Caterpillar, Komatsu, and Hitachi machines working side by side on the same construction site.

Now imagine managing this fleet through three different telematics platforms, each with its own data model, dashboards, and applications.

And just to make things more interesting — there is also a hydraulic piling rig (the blue machine, likely from Junttan, Finland) adding another asset, another system, and another stream of data.

Apparently, someone on this project wasn’t afraid of operational complexity.
