Agility standardizes Digit 5 compute on NVIDIA Thor.

Agility Robotics chose NVIDIA IGX Thor as Digit 5's standard onboard computer and is building NVIDIA Halos components into the humanoid's safety architecture before commercial early access.

Robotics: Agility standardizes Digit 5 compute on NVIDIA Thor.
A standardized onboard computer coordinates perception, planning, motion and safety in Digit 5.

Digit 5 will use NVIDIA IGX Thor as its exclusive onboard computer for the general-availability configuration. Agility says the system supplies the real-time compute needed for perception, planning and control while giving its next-generation humanoid one hardware baseline across customer deployments.

The company is also integrating NVIDIA Halos components into the robot's safety system and developing an inspection laboratory for third-party certification. Early access is planned for the first half of 2027, followed by broader availability over six to nine months for manufacturing, warehousing and distribution customers.

01

What changed

Agility unveiled Digit 5 and its safety concept in September. The October 22 update makes IGX Thor the standard commercial compute platform, links Halos to the safety system and adds a concrete early-access window and certification facility.

02

Why it matters

A general-purpose industrial humanoid has to run perception, planning, motion and safety functions within a predictable onboard envelope. Standardizing compute can reduce configuration drift, simplify software validation and give service teams a common diagnostic and replacement path across fleets. Integrating safety components and building a certification lab also signals that commercialization is moving beyond demonstrations. The architecture is still prospective: early access begins in 2027, certification is unfinished and Agility has not published Digit 5 uptime, intervention frequency or task productivity. Buyers should judge the platform by repeatable field behavior and independently assessed safety evidence.

03

What to watch

Watch third-party certification results, early-access customers, fleet size, uptime and intervention rates, software-update controls, repair procedures, power consumption and measured performance on manufacturing and warehouse tasks.

Why it was a runner-up

The compute and safety standardization is a material commercial-readiness step, but Digit 5 has not entered general availability and the certification and fleet-performance evidence remain pending.

Impact: 88/100 · Confidence: 90/100

Agility provides primary detail on the compute decision, safety integration, certification lab and availability window. The Next Web and robotics trade coverage independently confirm the announcement. Confidence is high in the product plan; commercial performance remains unproven.
