Exotec ties warehouse robotics to a next-morning delivery promise.
First Supply’s 31-robot Skypod installation converts orders placed by 5 p.m. into next-morning deliveries from one centralized distribution center.

First Supply has put 31 Exotec Skypod robots into live operation at a 308,000-square-foot Wisconsin distribution center. The system uses 38-foot storage racks with more than 50,000 bins, three picking stations, six packing stations and real-time integration with the wholesaler’s warehouse-management system.
The operating result is a customer-facing cutoff: orders received by 5 p.m. join an overnight run and reach branches before morning crews arrive. Exotec reports fulfillment up to ten times faster than the manual process it replaced, four times the SKU capacity without extending the existing racks and roughly 30% more potential throughput by adding bins and robots. Those results are vendor and customer claims rather than independently audited benchmarks.

What changed
The distribution center and automation plan were announced earlier. The material October 6 update is a year of operating evidence connecting the installed system to a guaranteed next-morning service level, documented capacity gains and disaster-response deliveries.

Why it matters
Warehouse robotics projects often stop at equipment counts or theoretical picks per hour. First Supply exposes a more consequential measure: how late a contractor can order without losing a workday. The deployment also shows how robots, software, tall storage, packing and overnight transport must operate as one system; a faster robot alone would not create the guarantee. For industrial distributors carrying broad, slow-moving catalogs, the architecture can centralize inventory while preserving local availability. The limitation is evidence quality: the disclosed gains come from Exotec and its customer, so operators should validate uptime, labor, error rates and peak-season performance before generalizing the economics.

What to watch
Watch independently measured order accuracy, system uptime, labor hours per line, peak-season throughput, maintenance cost, expansion beyond 31 robots and whether First Supply sustains the 5 p.m. cutoff across more locations.
Why it was a runner-up
The deployment has unusually concrete operating results, but it is one distribution center with vendor-reported performance; Google’s grid agreement has broader economic reach and adds substantially more physical capacity.
Impact: 90/100 · Confidence: 94/100
Exotec’s case study provides the site configuration, equipment counts, workflow and operating results, while earlier trade reporting confirms the facility and installation plan. The deployment is clearly live, but performance figures have not been independently audited.
